BIOGRAPHY
Emma Price is a classically trained violinist. Originally from the Big Island of Hawai’i, Emma recently completed a Masters of Music degree in violin performance at the Rotterdam Conservatory in The Netherlands. She studied under Igor Gruppman, former concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic, and Vesna-Stefanovich Gruppman, an award-winning pedagogue and performer. Emma also holds an honors Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from the University of Utah where she studied with David Park, a sought after soloist and former associate concertmaster of the Utah Symphony.
Emma made her solo debut with the Utah Valley Symphony in 2015. Since then she has performed around the world as a soloist and with ensembles in Japan, Germany, The Netherlands, Greece, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and throughout the United States.
At the age of 21, Emma joined the Orchestra at Temple Square and she continues to perform on worldwide broadcasts, concerts, album recordings, and other publicized events. Emma has also served as concertmaster of the Utah Philharmonia and the Lyceum Philharmonic. She also enjoys playing chamber music, and for two years played with the O.C. Tanner Honors String Quartet. Emma also performed with OTRA, an Orquesta Típica in Rotterdam that performs Argentine-style tango music. Throughout her career, Emma has had the privilege of performing and recording with such artists as The Piano Guys, Sissel Kyrkjebø, Michael Maliakel, Kelli O’Hara, Jenny Oaks Baker, Marshall McDonald, and Lexi Walker, among others.
As a recording musician, Emma has performed with the Utah Film Orchestra on the Warhammer video game score, the soundtrack to the The Book of Mormon videos, as well as several albums with the Orchestra at Temple Square and Lyceum Philharmonic. While concertmaster, Emma played the violin solos on the album Holy Night, released in 2018 by the Lyceum Philharmonic. Emma was also featured on the film score Stowaway, an award-winning animated short produced by BYU in 2021.
Emma is a passionate teacher and began her private violin studio in 2019 for students of all ages and levels. She seeks to help musicians establish a strong technical foundation in their playing that will allow them to perform at the highest level of artistry. Emma has also conducted pedagogical research on the origins and legacy of the “Russian” bow hold as an undergraduate student. She recently completed artistic research on the performance style of Jascha Heifetz in relation to Korngold’s violin concerto.
